Police Seek To Find Out How Girl, 2, Wandered Off From Monroe Township, N.J. Daycare

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police late Friday were investigating how a toddler wandered away from a daycare center in Monroe Township, New Jersey.

The alleged incident happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Police said a 2-year-old girl with developmental disabilities was at a state-licensed daycare facility on Prospect Plains Road when she wandered off.

A Good Samaritan found the girl walking by herself on the shoulder of Applegarth Road. The witness took the child from the road and contacted Monroe police, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.

The daycare facility did not tell police the girl had been missing, prosecutors said.

Chris Ryan owns a business next to the daycare.

"Thank God – number one – the child was safe, because it is, you know, especially the time I heard they found the child, that's very busy; a very busy intersection," Ryan said.

The investigation was ongoing late Friday, and no charges had been filed.
