Police: Man Sexually Assaults 26-Year-Old Woman In Brooklyn Apartment Stairwell

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Police are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted and attempted to rape a 26-year-old woman in Brooklyn.

At around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, the woman entered an apartment building on Loring Avenue in Lindenwood and entered the stairwell. A man then entered the stairwell from the third floor and grabbed her from behind while placing his hand over her mouth, police said.

The man then forced the woman to the ground, sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her, police said. He proceeded to take $100 from the woman's purse and fled on foot, according to the report.

EMS transported the young woman to Kings County Hospital for treatment. The investigation by the NYPD Special Victims Unit is ongoing.

The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s, 5 feet 10 inches and 150 pounds with tattoos on his arm. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a blue/purple t-shirt, black pants and black sneakers with white soles.
