NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York’s West Side Highway was packed with dozens of choppers that went to Ground Zero on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 9/11 memorial ride.

WCBS 880’s Stephanie Colombini reported bikers from all over New York revved their engines to join Cuomo and more than 250 first responders for the motorcycle ride from the far West Side to the World Trade Center site.

Carlos Varone from Queens worked both as an EMS responder on 09/11 and as a Salvation Army aide in the aftermath of the attacks.

Fifteen years later, he said the wounds are still raw.

“The amount of folks that are out there, you can still see there’s that emotional tug that even though 15 years, certainly the family that were affected are not forgotten,” Varone said.
