NYU Student Raped By Man She Thought Was Cab Driver

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A 21-year-old New York University student was raped by a man she thought was a cab driver early Saturday morning, according to authorites.

At around 1 a.m., the student called a cab and got into a vehicle on 33rd Street. It's not clear if the vehicle was actually a cab or not.

The man behind the wheel drove her to a secluded spot and raped her, hitting her in her face, according to authorities.

The man dropped her off near Union Square and she called 911.

She was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of bruises to her face.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 21-year-old woman who had been drinking at a bar on East 12th Street Saturday night told authorities she was raped in the back of a van by two men.

That woman also went to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital for treatment.
