18 Fallen NYPD Officers Honored In Police Memorial Wall Ceremony

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Eighteen more names were added to the Police Memorial Wall in Battery Park City on Thursday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner James O'Neill joined families of the fallen officers as they reflected on those they had lost.

"Thank you for sharing these remarkable men and women with us," O'Neill said. "And for your courage through extended illnesses and loss."

Sixteen of the officers added to the wall of remembrance Thursday died of 9/11 related illnesses, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

The other two officers memorialized were 25-year-old Det. Brian Moore and 33-year-old Det. Randolph Holder, who were killed in the line of duty.

Holder was killed on Oct. 20, 2015, after he was shot in head while pursuing a robbery suspect in East Harlem. According to police, gunman and career criminal Tyrone Howard, 30, was running from another shooting in the development.

Holder's father, Randolph Sr., called the unveiling "bittersweet."

"Bitter that he's not here anymore, comfort that after a year we still think about him," he said.

Det. Moore, of Massapequa, was shot in the head while working on duty in Queens Village in May 2015. He was rushed to the hospital in a coma and died from his injuries two days later.

"When I see his name on the wall, and I see everybody else's name, you realize there's a tragedy attached to every name," father Raymond Moore said.

According to the NYPD, there are now 828 names engraved on the wall.
