LISTEN: Victor Cruz Says Giants 'Did What They Had To Do' With Josh Brown

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz didn't want to speak in detail about the team's decision to release kicker Josh Brown, but he did seem to endorse the move, calling domestic violence "disgusting."

"I feel the organization did what they had to do," Cruz said during his weekly appearance on Mike Francesa's WFAN show on Tuesday. "Domestic violence is, like I said earlier, disgusting and something I want to stay far away from. So it's unfortunate to see him go, but it is what it is."

Brown was cut Tuesday, days after police in Washington released writings by the Pro Bowl kicker in which he admitted to physically and verbally abusing his now-estranged wife, Molly.

HOLDING UP: With the Giants (4-3) heading into their bye week, Francesa asked Cruz how he was feeling in his first season back after missing nearly two years with injuries.

"I feel good," Cruz said. "Everything feels great. I'm obviously still going through the general sorness of the game, but nothing as far as my injuries are concerned. I feel great. I'm moving well. I feel really good in and out of my routes and my breaks and things like that."

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: Cruz admitted the Giants' offense, which ranks 25th in scoring, has not reached its potential this season.

"There's definitely a lot that we've left on the table, and we have to examine that as professionals individually when you're home and you've got this time off," he said. "Examine your plays. Examine what you did and didn't do well and see how we can fix those so we can not have to worry about those mistakes come the second half of the season."

SAY HI TO THE BYE: Francesa asked Cruz how he's spending the bye week.

"Definitely in the first couple of days, you just want to get away from football, kind of put your feet up, get your rest, sleep in a little bit -- it's OK to sleep in for these first couple of days and just kind of get that body to relax a little bit," the receiver said. "Then after that, come Friday, Saturday, you want to start gearing back, maybe break a sweat, maybe jump on the treadmill."

KEY STRETCH: When Big Blue returns from the off week, they will play three straight home games -- against the Eagles, Bengals and Bears.

Cruz said he knows it's a golden opportunity for the Giants to take a big step toward the playoffs.

"It lines up pretty perfectly for us, but we still have to go out there and prepare and go out there and play those games," he said. "But we understand that this is a huge opportunity for us to get some separation within the division and get some separation within the NFC in general. We just want to put our best foot forward, enjoy this bye and then focus on our goals come next week."
