Investigators: Miami Marlins Pitcher Was Partying On Night Of His Death

MIAMI (CBSNewYork) -- Investigators say Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was partying the night he died.

The medical examiner said Fernandez had cocaine and alcohol in his system when he died last month, CBS2's Steve Overmyer reported.

The star pitcher and two of his friends were killed after their private boat hit a jetty near Miami Beach.

It is still unclear who was driving the boat that night, but investigators said Fernandez had a blood-alcohol content of .147, which is well above the legal limit.

The three men suffered blunt-force injuries to their heads and bodies.

Fernandez's attorney said the alcohol revelation is out of character for the pitcher who was a two-time all star and the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year.
