Nassau County Police Honor Hospital For Saving Inspector Injured In Serious Accident

WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County Police, family members, and doctors joined an officer being released from the hospital on Thursday, after his miracle recovery from a serious auto accident.

Nassau County Police Inspector Robert Psoinas said he didn't know how to thank the doctor who performed surgery on him following a car accident two months ago.

"I came out of my coma after about four or five days, I set eyes on her, I knew there was something very special and in a short time I realized they really saved my life," he said.

Despite the life threatening injuries when a car broadsided his after running a red light Psoinas was wheeled out of Nassau University Medical Center on Thursday, surrounded by fellow officers like Sgt. Ricky Forsetti. He said the whole Second Precinct where Psoinas is the commanding officer was also grateful to the staff and presented them with a plaque.

"After leaving a funeral and being able to come here, and being able to have Bob and his family come out of this hospital is just unbelievable," Forsetti said.
