LISTEN: Brian Billick Says Giants Must Improve In Other Areas To Overcome Shaky Running Game

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants' running game -- or lack thereof -- is the biggest roadblock to the Giants becoming a serious contender in the NFC, says former Ravens coach Brian Billick.

The Giants (6-3) are 31st in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging just 74.2 yards per game. In his weekly appearance on Mike Francesa's WFAN show Wednesday, Billick said Big Blue is not good enough across the board to overcome that.

"Now, some people are saying, 'Well, remember the 2010 Green Bay Packers were terrible at running the ball,'" the Super Bowl-winning coach and NFL Network analyst said. "Yeah, they were 24th in the league in rushing and went on to win a Super Bowl, but they were also fifth in total defense, fifth in turnover differential, ninth in total offense. The Giants are going to have to come up a whole lot stronger in a lot more areas if they're going to continue to not run the ball well."

Billick also discussed Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's news conference in which he voiced his support for Dak Prescott remaining the starter of the 8-1 team.

"You got the sense that he knew that it was going to go down this way (with him not reclaining the starting job after returning from injury)," Billick said. "And the fact that he was able step up and do it this way allows him a little dignity, allows him to be the good team player. ... Classy move and somewhat predictable."

Billick said it will be interesting to see Romo does next season "because clearly Dak Prescott's going to be the guy." Romo, 36, has three years remaining on his contract and is set to count $24.7 million against the salary cap in 2017.
