Crowds Marvel As Thanksgiving Parade Balloons Start To Take Shape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Adults and kids alike gathered Wednesday for a yearly tradition that's as much fun as watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade itself.

On the eve of the parade, spectators can watch the giant balloons get inflated on the Upper West Side.

CBS2's Lonnie Quinn spoke to some of the spectators taking it all in before tomorrow's main event.

"I think they're really cute," beamed one little girl.

"They're really cool," one boy said.

Another boy said he likes when the balloons are blown up because it's like discovering a new person every year.

This year's parade is featuring several new balloons, including a revamped Charlie Brown.

By nine o'clock Wednesday, all 16 character balloons and 27 additional novelty balloons will be fully inflated, ready for their close-up.

To keep Charlie and his balloon friends earthbound overnight, they'll be kept underneath giant nets until they begin their march down Central Park West Thursday morning.

The balloon inflation event is open to the public until 10 p.m. Wednesday.
