Search Continues To Fake Cop Caught Groping Sleeping Woman Through Open Window

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police are still looking for more information about a man they say reached through a second-floor open window and groped a sleeping woman in Brooklyn, then claimed to be a police officer.

The incdent happened around 4:40 a.m. on May 12 at an apartment building near Clarkson and Rogers Avenues in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

Police said the suspect was on the roof, then reached into an open second-floor window and groped the 21-year-old victim as she was asleep in bed. When she awoke, he allegedly claimed to be a cop and asked if he could join her.

The woman screamed, and the man took off. She was not hurt, and suspect never got into the apartment.

Ricki Richards of Queens was visiting friends in the neighborhood and urged them to take safety precautions.

"I don't think people should live in their homes and feel fearful of things that are going to be happening," he said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-700-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers website, or by texting a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
