Driver Hurt When Car Jumps Curb, Slams Into McDonald's In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – At least one person was hurt when a car slammed into a McDonald's restaurant Friday in Brooklyn.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Rockaway Parkway near Seaview Avenue in Canarsie.

Cell phone video shows the aftermath of the crash. A gray car jumped the curb and shattered the glass storefront. Half the car made its way into the restaurant, hitting tables and chairs before coming to a stop.

The driver, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital. She's expected to be OK.

Customers were eating breakfast in the restaurant, but, thankfully, none were in the car's path.

"I don't want to be in the middle of – anyone could be sitting there and get hurt. I don't want that to happen," Alex Aleman, of Canarsie, told CBS2's Aundrea Cline-Thomas.

Tony Herbert said he stops by the McDonald's often and he's lucky to have just missed the ordeal.

"There's a slight curve here, too. So to think that a vehicle would come in and you're sitting there having breakfast is quite alarming," he said. "They had actually just remodeled this place, what have you, and they did a really good job on it."

Now, even more work needs to be done. Still, employees didn't miss a beat. They stayed open despite the gaping hole in the front of the store.

"This is Brooklyn, New York. Things gotta still go. We got business to do," said Aleman.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

One person was taken to a local hospital, but there's no word on that person's condition.
