Painting Found In Elderly French Woman's Home Sells For $26.6 Million

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A small painting found in a French woman's kitchen has turned into the most expensive medieval artwork ever sold.

The painting "Christ Mocked" by 13th-century artist Cimabue has sold at auction for more than $26 million.

It was discovered after a woman in her 90s decided to sell her house and asked an appraiser to see if she had anything of value inside.

She had no idea the tiny artwork that was displayed above her stove for decades was actually a masterpiece.
