Con Ed: Smart Gas Detectors Help Identify More Than 60 Serious Leaks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Con Edison says its Smart Technology Natural Gas Detectors are making a big impact.
The utility company installed nearly 34,000 of the devices, mainly in Westchester County, and says they detected 68 serious leaks.
The detectors sound an alarm and a voice warning to occupants and alert Con Ed's emergency response center, which notifies the local fire department.
Some customers in the Bronx will get the detectors later this year.
