American Red Cross Putting Out Plea For Blood Donations Amid National Shortage

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The nation is dealing with a critical blood shortage.

Low supplies are forcing doctors to make difficult decisions about who receives transfusions.

The American Red Cross supplies 40% of the nation's blood supply. That blood is sent wherever it is needed.

American Red Cross regional CEO Rosie Taravella joined CBS2's Dana Tyler to discuss the shortage and the importance of donating blood. For more information on how to donate blood, visit redcross.org/give-blood.
