WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reports
Bill de Blasio says he respects the mayor and he respects Cathie Black's accomplishments in the private sector, but maintains the parents of the city know nothing about her.
"So, what I'm saying to the mayor is have her address the public," de Blasio told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb. "Let's have a public forum where she talks about her ideas and she answers questions from stakeholders, from teachers, from parents in a public way - that that will show us who she is."
Black, the former publisher of USA Today, has no background as an educator, and state Education Commissioner David Steiner would have to grant a waiver before she could take over as schools chancellor.
The public advocate also says the forum should happen before the state education commissioner decides whether to give Black the waiver to take the post being vacated by Joel Klein.
