Carlos Campos Charged With Murder In Triple Fatal Stabbing In N.J.

HARRISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Police have identified a New Jersey man suspected of fatally stabbing his parents and toddler niece in their family home.

The Hudson County prosecutor has charged 23-year-old Carlos P. Campos of Harrison with three counts of murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio says Campos is accused of stabbing his parents, both Brazilian immigrants, and his sister’s child, after what may have been an argument with his father.

The victims are identified as 56-year-old Carlos Campos-Trinidad, 58-year-old Ruth Pereira and 3-year-old Gabriella Morales. The child’s mother is traveling in Haiti with a mission group and the father has been notified.

Campos is being held on $3 million bail and will make a court appearance following a mental health evaluation at Jersey City Medical Center.

I disagree with Bertolucci who states that Harrison is just like Newark.

I was raised in Harrison .. lived there from the 40’s and left in 1974. Whenever I drive through Harrison, I am impressed how well maintained the homes are and there are no vacant stores on the avenue.
I remember “my” Harrison as being a good and busy town .. lots of industry that provided employment for its residents, low taxes and so many wonderful family owned stores on Harrison Ave. & 4th Street .. you name it, Harrison had it. Today, however, the passing of time has changed things .. Harrison is not the once thriving town it was; however, it is absent of violence, the residents are hard working people who take pride in what they own, the streets are not filled with litter and crime. Comparing Harrison to Newark is very unfair and uncalled for. If you live in Harrison, Bertolucci, go to Newark to live and then make your comparison.

Is there anyway that you guys can confirm that this is a legitimate fund for the family? I sincerely hope that you’re not using this as an opportunity to scam others. If not, please post something that shows it.

Harrison is not a ghetto. Its a nice family oriented community. This situation is horrific and it can happen anywhere. Clearly this man was not in his right mind. What reasonable person would kill their parents and their three year old niece? This crime does not change my opinion of Harrison. This crime does make me think that you can not judge a person by their cover. My prayers are with these family, especially with the mother of Gabriella! I can not imagine how I would survive without my child, let alone if that child was taken from me by my own brother.

This is crazy i use to know him, but not anymore i havent seen him in awhile, but he use to be a nice guy and its unbelievable because the mother was helping the poor in haiti and this is what she gets in return, its just really shocking to me.
And thank you for Sheila and Nana Viega for giving out notices to help them out.

Bertolucci: to say you were uninformed would be too kind: you seem to be willfully ignorant. Harrison is a great town making it despite adverse closure of old smokestack industry. This kind of crime by a very sick individual is virtually unheard of here.

This absolutely does not change my opinion of Harrison. Something like this can happen anywhere, it’s just a shame it happened at all.
