18-Month-Old Girl Shot In Face At Staten Island Playground

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An 18-month-old girl is fighting for her life after she was shot in the face Wednesday in a playground outside her apartment building in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten Island.

Symia Bailey was sitting in a stroller in the park with her aunt, uncle and father in the courtyard of the Arlington Houses on Holland Avenue when shots rang out shortly before 2 p.m.

1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan reports: Child Caught In The Crossfire

Witnesses said the babysitter and the girl’s father picked the child up and ran for help.

CBS 2’s Pablo Guzman reports that less than a half hour after the shooting, a police chase ensued after officers matched the description of the car given to them at the scene.

1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan reports the vehicle was stopped on the West Shore Expressway and four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police believe one of the four suspects is believed to be the shooter.

Sources told Sheridan the child’s father or uncle may have been the intended target of the shooting.

Christian Bailey, the child’s uncle, said he comforted the little girl as they sped to the hospital.

“I kept her awake because she was falling asleep so I just kept calling, ‘Baby, wake up, I’m here,’” he said.

The little girl is listed in critical but stable condition at Richmond University Medical Center.

“It’s a sad situation, it should’ve never happened,” one witness told Guzman.

The investigation is ongoing.

Typical of these type of people.

The parents in these housing projects need to not let their children hang outside because of acts like this happening.

This area is seedy to begin with.

Hopefully the girl will recover from this and that the gunman is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

4 are being charged in this? Im wondering how if there was one shooter?

When I was young, I used to burn ants with a magnifying glasslike many have done. I surely regret ever doing it now.

Jokes and derogatory comments about race or social class aside (to Glenn Erdmann)…. what matters here is that an innocent child was shot by a worthless human being. What is worst is that the other “human being” was her father, which happens to be a waste of space too. You may want to wonder why he was the target …. but also you may want to wonder where the other piece of garbage got the gun from.

Project bunnies shooting at project bunnies…………they can’t even do that right, and an innocent child has to suffer. Hopefully she recovers fully and can visit the bunnies behind bars and laugh at them.

They need to make those SOB’s that did that to a innocent little child, have a slow and painful death!
This country is way too soft on criminals that do such heinous acts. In cases like this, jail is just too good for them, sub humans like these need to SUFFER!!!
F’ a trial and getting a attorney…WHAT THE F’ FOR?!?! GUILTY! DON’T WASTE TAXPAYERS MONEY ON STUPID ASS NON-SENSE! Rake their bodies over some hot coals!!
