With Christmas right around the corner, here’s a list of gift ideas I sent to Santa for the Mets and their fans:
Johan Santana: A healthy left shoulder and a way to insert his heart and determination into every single Mets player.
Daniel Murphy: Please give the man without a position a place to play because his bat is too potent to leave on the bench.
David Wright: A healthy bat behind him in the lineup. One that can protect Wright so he can take advantage of the new dimensions at Citi Field.
Ike Davis: Above all, a healthy season which should transform him into Wright’s gift (see above).
Ruben Tejada: Give him some upper body strength to pair with that killer glove and very high on-field IQ.
Jason Bay: At some point, a standing ovation from Mets fans–hard to find a better person in baseball. Although results have been poor, his effort is always there.
Lucas Duda: Just a slightly better glove in right–I think he has all the tools at the plate.
Jonathon Niese: Strength to finish the season like a champion race horse and not break down in August.
Sandy Alderson: $20 million more to spend on payroll.
Terry Collins: More consistency from his players. As a manager he is solid with a capital ‘S’.
RA Dickey: That his hunger and humility could rub off on all of us.
Matt Harvey and Zach Wheeler: Fast Track to Citi Field.
Ivan Rodriquez: A one-year deal with the Mets.
Jose Reyes: Happiness in Florida… but not when you play the Mets.
Fred Wilpon: Closure in the Madoff case with minimal financial damage and six minority owners.
Dan Warthen: Recognition for being a darn good pitching coach.
Gary Carter: Health and his number to be retired at Citi this year–Keith and Darryl too!
SNY Broadcast Crew: An Emmy for each of every one of them–Cohen, Burkhardt, Darling and Hernandez are as good as it gets.
To Met Fans: You deserve a better team and a better season. But in the interim, from the bottom of my heart–a healthy and happy holiday season.
Mets fans: Can you add to Rich’s list? Let ‘er rip in the comments below…

Mike B nailed it. That was the first thing I thought of when i started reading this column. Everything else is nonsensical and pointless. This team will never get better as long as the Wilpons are the owners

For the WILPON’S to sell the team.

Hope that the Wilpons will come to the conclusion, apparent to all of us, that they aren’t the right people to own a major league franchise in New York.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Glenn. Perhaps, each fan slould give $100 to buy the team. The Mets could become like Green Bay Packers, community-owned.
