Rudy Giuliani Defends A-Rod: 'You've Got To Root For Him'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani says Alex Rodriguez is a "really good man" and doesn't deserve to get booed upon his return to Yankee Stadium.

"I don't appreciate that," Giuliani said about the boo-birds in a video posted by TMZ.com on Wednesday.

A-Rod was roundly jeered by Yankees fans during his nightmarish postseason in 2012. Donald Trump even ripped him on Twitter -- again and again. And now Rodriguez is wrapped up in MLB's investigation into Biogenesis and performance-enhancing drugs.

The clock is ticking for his return to the Bronx, where the reception may not be so warm.

"I was one of the first to say that Yankee fans should not boo A-Rod," said Giuliani, a noted Bombers die-hard. "He's on our team. You've got to root for him."

New York, held to one run in each of three straight losses, could use his bat. Rodriguez started playing in rehab games earlier this month following offseason hip surgery.

Then again, he could also soon be suspended by Commissioner Bud Selig. A-Rod, who has denied the latest PED allegations, will reportedly be interviewed by MLB investigators on Friday regarding Biogenesis.

"I think he's one of the greatest players ever," Giuliani said. "I happen to know him personally. He's a really good man."
