Police Investigating Possible Midtown Hit-And-Run, Woman Critically Injured

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An apparent domestic dispute inside a Midtown restaurant and bar early Saturday morning ended with both a 23-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend hospitalized.

Police said they believe the man, identified as 28-year-old Ricaury Pena, struck the woman with his SUV before fleeing the scene, only to crash hours later on Harlem River Drive.

The apparent hit-and-run happened just before 4 a.m. Saturday on 46th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Witnesses said the woman was coming out of a bar when she was hit by the speeding SUV apparently being driven by Pena her boyfriend.

"I looked and I saw a young girl lying down on the ground. It looked like a lot of blood," said one witness.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Hours later, at around 8 a.m., the SUV crashed on Harlem River Drive just before the George Washington Bridge. The 28-year-old boyfriend, identified as Ricaury Pena of the Bronx, was taken to Harlem Hospital and was also listed in critical condition.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
