Police: 4-Year-Old Boy Brought Baggies Of Marijuana To Meriden Elementary School

MERIDEN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A 4-year-old Connecticut boy brought marijuana to his school and innocently offered up the drugs to his classmates, police said.

A teacher told police the special needs student at the Hanover Elementary School in Meriden pulled out nine bags of pot, which officials said appeared to be wrapped for sale, from his pocket at snack time Tuesday.

Parents at the school are shocked.

"At 4-years-old, someone gave it to him, or he took it, not knowing what it was," Arthur Werley told CBS2.

"Our concern is for the 4-year-old student, who had no knowledge of what he was bringing to school," School Superintendent Mark D. Benigni said.

Benigni said the teacher immediately confiscated the drugs and other children in the class were unaware of the incident.

Investigators are trying to determine where the child got the drugs.

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families is also investigating.

No arrests have been made.
