RYE, NY (CBSNewYork) – There is some good news for those who ride the New Haven Line every day.

It will be years before the fleet is completely replaced, but Metro-North and the Connecticut DOT have 78 of the new M-8 coaches.

58 of them are in daily service, representing more than 24 percent of daily trains.

In Rye, there is an understanding that you’d probably lose a bet that the next train is a new one.

“They’re very nice. They’re a lot nicer than these old bags of bolts,” said one rider.

On many trains it still seems like a squeeze, in 24 of these new coaches are running in trains that are only six cars long.
