YAPHANK, NY (CBSNewYork) – The Shinnecock Indians are said to be focused on new site for a casino on Long Island.

It’s a 100-acre, uncleared location off exit 66 of the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank.

So far, there has been no comment from Indian officials, but Newsday reports the site is favored, partly because there are no nearby homes and that means the project would be unlikely to face strong opposition.

It is reported the tribe could open the casino relatively quickly at an already existing warehouse, and then expand to a larger development.

The Shinnecocks have made Suffolk County their favored location after plans for a casino in Nassau County collapsed.
