NEW YORK (WFAN) — Like it or not, Alex Rodriguez will be back with the New York Yankees in 2015.
Outgoing MLB Commissioner Bud Selig says A-Rod is returning with a clean slate. But the fans — who didn’t much like the embattled third baseman to begin with — won’t be so quick to forget his role in last year’s Biogenesis performance-enhancing drugs scandal, or Rodriguez’s scorched-earth approach to appealing the suspension that cost him the entire 2014 season.
And that’s why “Bald Vinny” Milano is selling the idea of forgiveness — on a T-shirt.
The chief of the Yankee Stadium Bleacher Creatures spoke with WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Wednesday about his “#FORG1V3” tee, available for $20 at Section203.com, that has been making headlines in recent days.
“People just really don’t like the guy,” Bald Vinny told Joe & Evan. “There’s nobody that they like to hate more for some reason. And that’s exactly why I want to get behind him, because there’s enough negativity out there.”
For the uninitiated, the design is a play on A-Rod’s No. 13 and the hashtag that caught fire this summer in honor of Derek Jeter’s final season. “Turn some of your #RE2PECT into a little bit of #FORG1V3-ness,” the product description reads online.
Still, Bald Vinny expects the boo-birds to outweigh the A-Rod supporters next season.
“I like to cheer for the guy who needs to be cheered for, you know?” he said. “If he needs a little bit of support, I’m happy to lend him some support.”
And how about this: Bald Vinny said he connected some dots, and maybe, possibly, Rodriguez himself could have placed a T-shirt order.
“I don’t know that to be a fact,” he said. “The day that they came out, I got an order for a dozen of them that went to Coral Gables, Florida. … Who knows where they wound up at the end.”
