Dept. Of Homeless Services Issues Code Blue As Potentially Deadly Cold Sweeps Over City
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York City Department of Homeless Services has issued a Code Blue and stepped up street outreach in an effort to get the city's homeless indoors as temperatures plummet.
As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, the Code Blue procedures make it easier for homeless men and women to get into shelters, but over at Grand Central you'll find people who want no part of the shelter system.

"Some of those fellows don't act correctly, so you don't really want to live with them," said Joey.
So those living on the streets, like James, must find another way of surviving this potentially deadly cold.
"It limits your places where you can sleep," he said. "And as far as dealing with, like the other night when they closed down the subways, they was kind of cruel because they kicked all the people out of the stations."
And some told Stern they've slept outdoors in cold like this before.
