Ahmad Khan Rahami: 5 Fast Facts On NYC, NJ Bombing Suspect

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man wanted for questioning in the bombings that rocked Chelsea and Seaside Park, New Jersey was captured Monday after being wounded in a gun battle with police that erupted when he was discovered sleeping in the doorway of a bar, authorities said.

Here's what we know so far on suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami:

  • Rahami is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan with an address in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
  • Authorities raided an apartment above a First American Fried Chicken restaurant towards an apartment on Elmora Avenue, believed to be owned by Rahami's family.
  • Rahami was taken into custody after Linden police responded to a call of a man sleeping in the hallway of a business.

"The suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the officer and striking him in the abdomen," Capt. James Sarnicki with Linden police told CBS2. "The gentlemen got up and started walking down the street in a westerly direction. I'm told that he was randomly discharging his handgun and one of the officers was able to get close enough to him and return fire."

  • Authorities say Rahami was shot several times and taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
  • Several other suspects that were believed to be in connection to Rahami were taken into custody after being pulled over at a traffic stop on the Belt Parkway. Authorities say no arrests have been made.
