Congressman Weiner Officially Leaves Office Tuesday Night

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Anthony Weiner is officially joining the ranks of the unemployed. The disgraced New York congressman’s resignation letter, submitted Monday, states he will leave office at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.

The letter ended with him writing “it has been an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn.”

Democrats started calling for the married father-to-be to step down after he became embroiled in a scandal over his sending explicit photos of himself and graphic messages to at least six women, including a former porn star.

Weiner’s next move remains unclear. He has received a number of job offers including an appearance on the HBO series “Entourage” and a writing gig for Hustler Magazine. Larry Flynt said he wants Weiner for his politics, not his Twitter pics, asking Weiner to become a political contributor for the magazine.

Job offers aside, what is most likely in Weiner’s future is some sort of work in politics.

During his resignation speech on June 16, he said, “I will be looking for other ways to contribute my talents, to make sure that we live up to that most of New York and American ideals.”

Election records show Weiner has more than $365,000 for a congressional re-election campaign and another $4.5 million reserved for a prospective campaign to become New York City mayor. But that money comes with limitations.

“Well, he can’t take it with him and go to Disneyland. It’s not, he’s not able to convert it to personal use,” said Ken Gross, campaign finance expert.

So it’s hard to say what Weiner will be doing next politically, but when it comes to his personal life, he has a lot to do.

His wife of just 11 months, Huma Abedin now pregnant with their first child, did not stand by her man as he explained his way out of office.

“I make this apology to my neighbors and my constituents, but I make it particularly to my wife Huma,” he said during his resignation speech Thursday. “Most importantly, my wife can continue to heal from the damage I’ve caused.”

Political allies have turned their backs on the disgraced congressman and now he must do everything he can so his wife doesn’t do the same.

New York Rep. Steve Israel said he advised Weiner that his resignation was best for him, his family and the country.

The couple reportedly headed to the Hamptons after Weiner resigned.

    Scott,

I didn’t know Wiener worked for the cable company. For which company, Time Warner or Cablevision? Knowing this, he won’t be unemployed for long. You’re right to point out that as a cable man, he will land on his feet. I have plenty of friends with both Time Warner and Cablevision, and the skills that they learned as cable men made them marketable in almost any career. The salaries that they command are ridiculous once they go out on their own. This is in stark contrast to the satellite workers, who often work for menial wages and are far less employable. God bless the cable industry for turning so many ordinary Joes into successful, wealthy businessmen.

I look forward to seeing Anthony Weiner fixing my high speed modem should it ever go down.

WIENER WITHDREW before he beCAME a STAIN on the party. Some wanted to ERECT a statue to him as a hero, but IN THE END most agree he had to PULL OUT.

I think he will fix his marriage first and I am all for that. Then, I think he should start some sort of educational initiative (for profit) helping local and national citizens understand the political process and how they fit in the process. I think a lot of people learned a lot about how congress works how the local politics work. JFK tried this with his magazine and it was starting to work before his untimely death which incidentally, still bothers me today. His is a cable man, he will land on his feet.
