3 Injured As Boats Collide Off Long Island

ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say three people are injured after a water taxi collided with a private boat off Long Island.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Jetta Disco says the accident occurred in the vicinity of Fire Island about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. She says the three were taken to an Islip hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening.

The four people on the water taxi and the two others on the pleasure craft were not hurt.

Jetta says the two boats were escorted to shore by Suffolk County authorities, but she had no details on how the collision occurred or damage to the water craft.

The Coast Guard is investigating the accident.

I was boating a few weeks ago and a water taxi almost hit my boat outside Atlantique.
We reported it to the ferry company and they said that they can see everything that happened from their office between my boat and there water taxi.
If you ask me they travel to fast at night and there is no time to react. I only travel about 12 knots and slower at night.
I think they should slow their boats down at night and regular boaters should do the same.
I now will not travel at night since it happen to me and now again.
I hope all the people will be ok and sorry to hear this happened.
