Woman's Body Found In Indiana; Unknown If It's Missing College Student Lauren Spierer

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman's body has been found in Indiana and now investigators are trying to determine if it's missing Westchester native and Indiana University college student Lauren Spierer.

The body was found floating in water in Fall Creek, Indiana Sunday evening. Fall Creek is about 60 miles from Bloomington where Indiana University is located.

Lauren Spierer was last seen June 3 walking back to her apartment in Bloomington after a night out with friends.

Police, hundreds of volunteers and her parents, Robert and Charlene Spierer, have been scouring the area looking for Lauren since her disappearance. Official, public searches were called off last week but police have said they will continue to investigate.

Witnesses say a child spotted the body on Sunday. Investigators say the body was severely decomposed so that the race or age of the woman could not be immediately determined.

The Marion County coroner's office is expected to determine a cause of death early Tuesday morning.
