NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Bronx District Attorney’s office and the NYPD have opened investigations into the actions of four Bronx police officers caught on video allegedly beating and kicking a drug suspect.

The officers from the 42nd Precinct have been stripped of their guns and shields and placed on modified duty.

In the video, which was posted on YouTube last weekend, the officers can be seen placing the suspect, 19-year-old Jatiek Reed, against a wall on East 168th Street.

For a moment, Reed appears to be resisting arrest.

Several officers can then be seen hitting Reed repeatedly with their batons.

After Reed falls to the ground, the officers can then be seen kicking and punching him while another officer appears to hold him down.

Shortly before the video cuts out, one of the officers appears to point Mace at the person videotaping the alleged beating.

Reed has been charged with assault.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly called the video “troubling.”

The video does not show the whole story.

  2. Only one says:

Just some cops giving their nightsticks a workout.

I only have 1 thing to say. If he was doing something illegal why was he only charged with assault. Shouldn’t there be another charge like dealing or something for these officers to approach a person and start beating on him. Theses cops don’t know what they are doing most of the time. They need to go back to the Police academy

  4. Crazy Eddie says:

Why is it all these cop beating videos always seem to turn up on World Star Hip Hop? I mean is that site funded by Al Sharpton and Jessie Jerkson?

  5. Vik says:

OK, curious question: why is nothing being said about the P.O.S. who bought or sold the drugs in the first place? Video means sh!T. Especially if a cop-hating civilian taped it. I personally don’t care for cops but unless you know what happened — maybe this punk was punching kicking anyone who had the nerve to try to arrest his sorry A$$ for doing something illegal – the nerve! — then hold your opinion unless it’s an intelligent one and not some remark like: oh, another cop beating an innocent guy. Let’s not forget the “innocent” guys they were supposedly beating up were probably caught selling drugs to someone’s kid sister or brother.

Ok,curious question, why no charge for possession with intent??

  6. Mr. C says:

All those officer or so called officers should be arrested and charged with assault and battery and put in Riker Island with the rest of the criminals so they can be beat on and see how it feels
