NYC Shootings: Man Critically Injured, 2 Others Hurt Overnight In Brownsville
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were shot early Thursday morning in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. near the Van Dyke Houses on Blake Avenue.
Police said a 23-year-old man was shot in the head, a 32-year-old man was hit in the right arm, and a 38-year-old woman in the left leg.
The youngest victim is in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital.
As CBS2's John Dias reported, investigators placed more than 20 evidence markers around two courtyards, and multiple bullet casings were scattered throughout.
"It's crazy, you know, it's ridiculous," one neighbor said.
"We need teaching that violence is not the only solution to solve a problem, and then the issue will go down," said Michael A. Moore.
Many people were concerned about elder loved ones who live in the area, saying incidents like this have become the norm.
Joseph River said his mother is almost 80 years old and he has been begging her to move.
"I want her to go to Puerto Rico or Florida," he told Dias. "She says she doesn't go to the window because she's scared that she's going to get shot."

At least 14 people were shot, two fatally, in the city Tuesday into early Wednesday morning. The most recent data show the number of people shot year-to-date is up more than 97% compared to last year.
"Not enough policing. And then when the police come, you can't fight with them. They have a job to do," said Moore.
The NYPD attributes much of the summer's gun violence to gang activity.
Officials say there has been an uptick in gun arrests, including 160 last week -- the most in a single week in 25 years.
"You want to reduce shootings, take gun arrests seriously. We've put so much work into that over the last six years," NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said Wednesday. "There's always an exception. But there is no reason to carry an illegal firearm on the streets of New York City."
So far, there's no word on a suspect in Thursday's incident.
