Get in shape for summer with one of these five high-intensity workouts. By Carly Petrone.
Finally, there’s an intense workout class that’s NOT intimidating to attend. KORE is owned by a dedicated mother-daughter team who had the idea of allowing everyone to go at their own pace while incorporating five main concepts: Active Stretch, Core Training, KORE4 (8-minutes of high-rep strength and stability movements), Equipment-Based Hiit, and Stretch and Cooldown. The star of the show is the TRX Suspension Trainer that allows you to perform more than 300 exercises. The studio itself is dark and filled with explosive sound and dynamic lighting choreographed to the workout, making it an even more fun overall experience. Post workout, you can enjoy amenities like chilled eucalyptus towels, showers, and bathroom-ready products like dry shampoo and face wash. Make sure to check out their chic and flirty apparel that are inspired by hashtags and pop culture sayings. The best part? Classes aren’t ridiculously expensive. Your first class is only $20 and can be used any time over 30 days. See website for more information and trainer profiles.
Skip the gym and take a class at Cityrow, the studio that alternates intervals on and off of the row machine to deliver a triple threat workout: high-intensity sweat, low-impact burn and total body results. You’ll immediately feel the benefits of this workout because you’ll be burning more calories while improving endurance. This low-impact workout uses WaterRowers to eliminates joint-damaging force used in other cardio exercises. Choose from four different classes, including the signature Cityrow, Fundamentals, Cityrow Flow, and Cityrow 75X. See their website for schedule, locations, as well as how to apply for their Spring Sprint program. All classes are 50 minutes.
If you like to switch up your workout routine then you’ll probably like modelFIT. This innovative class incorporates Pilates, Yoga, movement, motion, balance, stability, functional training and more. But the folks at modelFIT go one step further, by providing one-on-one sessions with personalized nutritional guidance as well as holistic ways to reach your goals of living a healthier lifestyle. Choose from a variety of modelFIT classes that range from boxing and sculpt to cardio. First-time clients can try a class for $25 ($40 for single class) and class packages are also available. See their website for more details.
Sign up for a 50-minute SLT class and you’ll certainly be sore the next day. You’ll feel like a bit of a contortionist with all of the planking, lunging, twisting and pulsing, but it’s these intense exercises that will give you lasting results. This full-body workout is done with the assistance and resistance of weighted springs, which means you have to be fully engaged in order to get through each motion. Don’t be shocked if the instructor takes you past your comfort level – you’ll most likely use muscles you’ve never felt before! Take advantage of their first class special for $20 (single class is $40). Class packages are available at all of the five NYC locations. See website for more information.

Channel your inner athlete and sign up for a class at Tone House. This workout focuses on movement training, which utilizes more muscle groups and uses the entire body, rather than isolating specific muscles or exercising in a stationary spot. You’ll start out by saying the Breakdown Team Chant – “Get motivated. Get focused. Get pumped up.” Then you’ll do 10-15 minutes of dynamic and progressively challenging warm-ups, followed by consistent transitions from explosive to non-explosive exercises, combined with resistance and velocity training techniques. Don’t worry, there will also be active recovery periods to keep the heart rate up for maximum caloric burn and fat loss. Finally, you’ll stretch and cool down for the last 10-15 minutes of class before reciting the final Breakdown Team Chant – “Leave energized. Leave inspired. Leave accomplished.” Find out more here.
